At the beginning of every semester in my high school French class, Madame Bayne would write these two words on the board:
Tabula Rasa
Translated: “clean slate”.
It was there to remind us that no matter what had happened in the previous semester, it was now the time to refresh our minds and start new.
And now, in this “new semester” of our lives, I can see those words written at the front of our life’s classroom. We are about to begin a journey where we know no one, get lost most every time we try to navigate around, and have a lot of unanswered questions.
But, that’s why it’s called faith.
We have no idea what lies ahead of us in the next few years. But we do know that God is calling us to do it.
I love that God has given us both a passion that we are chasing after. And that even though they’re not the same, we can do it together :)
When you find yourself looking ahead in your life, and you see the words “tabula rasa”, it can be a scary and exciting time. The most important thing we can do is look to our Father, and let Him write the story. Our pages are blank…so we haven’t even had the time to try to impose our own thoughts yet. Our stories could be so beautiful if we would let Him have the pen 100% of the time!
And those “clean slate” moments don’t require picking up everything you have and moving away. Sometimes we are called to hit the refresh button on our lives right where we are.
I believe that everything happens for a reason. We are called to live our lives with a purpose. We can change the road we’re on, but we always walk toward Jesus.
